Iran is ready to restart nuclear talks with the United States on condition that it is handled with "dignity" and "honor", Tehran's top diplomat has stated.

Abbas Araghchi said exclusively dialogue worked, and shared new appeals had been made by intermediaries to reopen talks with the Trump administration. He said Iran had zero undeclared nuclear sites, and Iran was not yet able to permit the global atomic watchdog to visit bombed nuclear sites for protective measures.

Navigating a Difficult Route

Araghchi is treading a complex course since Iran wishes not to be seen to be proceeding from a situation of disadvantage, and he consistently maintained that Iran had emerged more resilient militarily and psychologically from the Israeli-US attack on its enrichment centers in June.

He was talking at a strategic meeting in Tehran where he reiterated that Iran had "an absolute privilege to process nuclear material within its borders that it will always maintain" – the key factor of the deadlock in the earlier negotiations.

Previous Negotiations Suddenly Terminated

The earlier sessions of negotiations between the US and Iran were brought to an abrupt and bitter end on 12 June when Israel, with Washington's assistance, attacked Iran's enrichment centers in a two-week conflict that concluded with the US president asserting the facilities had been obliterated. Subsequently, European countries exercised their right to reinstate global restrictions, but Iran maintains they have not had a substantial consequence.

Magic Solution Proposed

Tehran representatives said they felt they had attained a "ideal resolution" to the uranium processing matter in previous talks, when it was settled an Iran-based consortium with American involvement could refine atomic fuel. Each party would have been able to declare success since domestic enrichment would have persisted and the US could be confident that Iran's atomic project was exclusively peaceful.

It had not been decided in the negotiations that Washington's technical specialists could function within Iranian territory, but that was a natural consequence of the consortium proposal. Diplomats asserted repeatedly they had secured an understanding with Washington's diplomat Steve Witkoff only for the deal to disintegrate due to "detractors in America".

Current Situation

Iranian officials declared the partnership proposal was now withdrawn, but it seems very probable the suggestion could be resurrected in some form if discussions restart.

The American leader in recent days said he had been receiving messages that Iran sought to restart talks, but privately Iranian officials state they are not yet receiving clear proposals from America either explicitly or from significant local go-betweens, such as Qatar, the Egyptian leadership, the Omani authorities and Saudi Arabia. The Iranian foreign ministry has been criticized of inactivity in the aftermath of Trump's direct instinctive approach, but Tehran asserts diplomacy is not part of a performance.

Diplomatic Stance

In his remarks to the conference, intended to paint the US as a controlling nation that misuses the notion of worldwide standards, the foreign minister stated the two-week conflict showed the conflict could not be settled by armed force. Araghchi declared: "It was not Iran that had deserted diplomacy; it was America and the European states that had always sought to enforce their demands during the discussions.
